Covington Book Group
The Covington Book Group meets monthly on a Monday night in the village hall
The meetings are very relaxed & enjoyable with snacks and drinks and in the winter a cosy fire. This is not a book group that is heavy or formal it is just a group of people who love to read and share the pleasure that reading gives them. You can find the dates of the meetings in the village calendar and our meetings normally last about an hour and a half.
The book group was inaugurated in March 2003 so has been going strong for over 15 years. If you would like to join us you would be very welcome, please just contact us using the form below.
Currently (27/01/2022) we are meeting virtually on Zoom.
A little more about us
We talk about books, of course but also all sorts of other things, catching up with each other and village events. The books we talk about are the ones we have read as a group as well as other books that we have enjoyed individually or are interested in reading. Each month the suggested books are available either a physical copies or e-books and there is a small subscription, that covers the cost of the hall & other group expenses.
You can find a list of the books that we have read previously and what we thought of them via the link on the right called Book Group archives.
To help members decide which of each months books they might like to read, we circulate reviews of the two books each month. Some members have time to read both but that is absolutely not a requirement, many members read one of the two options each month and indeed there are always times when some members simply don’t have time to read either book but joining the discussion helps them decide if they want to add either book to their personal reading list. We try not to ‘spoil’ any plots if there are members who have not read or finished a book.
We take it in turns to provide the snacks & there is always wine and soft drinks on hand to help lubricate the conversation.
For villagers who enjoy reading there is a mobile library that visits the village. It can be found in Cross Street on the second Wednesday of the month between 2:15 & 2:30pm. If the service is not used we could well lose it and there are some villagers who rely on it so if you can support please do.
The Book group also holds an annual film night for members and friends, you can find details in the link on the right called CBG Film Night, this will let you see the film nights we have held previously and how we have linked the food for each evening to the theme of the film. Currently the film night is only open to book group members, friends and family.
